Anti-Wrinkle
Treatment

Wrinkle relaxation injectables can rejuvenate your appearance, smooth harsh lines and prevent new creases from forming.

When we are young, our skin springs back to its initial position after we make facial expressions. As we get older, dynamic wrinkles and creases remain on the skin to form static wrinkles that are present at rest. This process occurs because the natural substances that give out skin structure, volume and elasticity decrease as we age.

Environmental factors such as exposure to sunlight, smoking and stress also contribute to the ageing of the skin, leaving many people with wrinkled skin that looks a lot older than they feel.

Anti-wrinkle injectables are designed to relax specific facial muscles that cause dynamic crinkles. Relaxing these muscles stops you from making particular facial expressions that lead to the formation of undesirable static wrinkles.

This procedure can be used to treat crow’s feet (from smiling and squinting), forehead lines (formed when you raise your eyebrows) and the vertical lines that appear between your eyebrows when you frown, which are known as glabellar frown lines.

As everyone is different, our team at My Klinik will develop a personalised anti-wrinkle treatment plan that focuses on your current condition and desired goals.

Anti-wrinkle injectables are a natural, purified protein that relaxes wrinkle-causing muscles to create a rejuvenated appearance. Manufactured in sterile laboratory conditions, the active ingredient in wrinkle relaxation treatment is derived from bacteria in much the same way penicillin is derived from mould.

The treatment is a prescription-only medicine and must be administered by a qualified medical professional. At My Klinik, all injectables are administered by our medical cosmetic injector Dr Moulos.

Wrinkle relaxation treatment is a non-surgical procedure whereby a small amount of product is injected into selected facial muscles. Usually, the treatment takes around ten minutes. Discomfort is typically minimal and brief, and no anaesthetic is required. The injection may sting for a few seconds, but normal activities can be resumed soon after.

After the procedure, it takes two to three days for the treatment to begin taking effect and up to seven days to see the full results. The dose recommended for the treatment will vary depending on your individual situation and the severity of your lines. During consultation, Dr Moulos will discuss with you the dosage, procedure and injection locations best suited for your desired results.

Results can last up to four months before lines begin to return and can last longer with repeat treatments.

Our goal is to make your experience as easy and comfortable as possible — Dr Moulos and the My Klinik staff are always willing to answer any questions you may have.

Pre and Post-Operative Care

  • Notify Dr Moulos of any medications that you are currently taking and if you have a history of cold sores. He may recommend an anti-viral medication before your treatment.
  • Do not smoke for two weeks before and two weeks after your procedure. Smoking decreases blood flow to the skin and may delay the healing process.
  • Do not drink any alcohol for two days before and two days after your procedure as it can thin the blood and increase the chance of bruising.
  • Do not take any medication that contains aspirin, or any anti-inflammatory or herbal medication for two weeks before your procedure. Aspirin thins the blood, which can result in unnecessary blood loss during your procedure.
  • Avoid chemical peels and needling for seven days leading up to your appointment.
  • If you have a rash, cold sore or blemish on the area 24 hours before your appointment, please call My Klinik to reschedule.
  • Immediately following your injections, your face will be cleaned. After this do not touch your face for six hours.
  • While you will be able to return to your normal routine immediately after the procedure, we recommend resting and applying an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the injection area to minimise any swelling or bruising.
  • We recommend sleeping face up with your head slightly elevated for the first night.
  • Avoid heavy lifting or strenuous activity for two days.
  • Avoid extensive sun or heat for three days.
  • Avoid excess alcohol or salts as these can increase the chance of swelling.
  • If required, take paracetamol for pain relief.
  • Do not undergo other facial treatments such as waxing, laser or microdermabrasion for two weeks after treatment.
  • Make-up may be worn the day after the procedure.
  • Contact My Klinik if you experience any increasing pain, tenderness, bruising or other issues that appear to be getting worse.
  • You should have a review appointment with Dr Moulos two weeks after the procedure.

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment FAQs

Many facial wrinkles occur when we use our muscles to form facial expressions — these are dynamic wrinkles. When we are young our skin springs back to its initial position at rest but as we get older the wrinkles and folds formed during facial expressions remain on the skin. The wrinkles and folds present at rest are called static wrinkles.

This process occurs because natural substances that provide the skin with structure and volume, such as collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, decrease with age. The natural decline of these substances paired with environmental factors — such as exposure to sunlight, smoking and stress — contributes to the creation of wrinkles and folds.

Without further treatments, your muscles will eventually return to normal and new wrinkles may start to develop.

The injections should cause minimal discomfort. Some temporary side effects at the injection site may be experienced, such as swelling, bruising and redness. Less frequently, temporary pain, firmness, lumps, itching and discolouration can also occur at the injection site. The majority of patients resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Many people use a combination of cosmetic products and procedures to achieve their desired results. To discuss your treatment options, including dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle treatments and cosmetic plastic surgery, book a consultation with the experienced team at My Klinik.
