Pregnancy and childbirth can take a great toll on a woman’s body and figure, particularly the abdomen and breasts.
The more children a woman has, the more changes are likely to affect the body. That’s why many women, once they’ve finished having children, find themselves contemplating restorative plastic surgery to improve the appearance of the abdomen and breasts. This has become known as a mummy makeover. Those who have undergone these procedures say that it has given them a whole new lease on life.
Dr Lim’s mummy makeovers are designed to meet each mother’s needs, with personalised treatment plans developed in the consultation process. This treatment plan might include a mastopexy (breast lift) with or without implants, a tummy tuck and/or liposuction.
A mummy makeover is best performed when a woman has finished having children, her children are old enough to not need constant care, and the family has sufficient support that the patient can have time to recover after surgical procedures. The staff at My Klinik are available to provide any help patients may need, including arranging special times for consultations and follow-ups to fit in with the family.
For more information on potential procedures, see the individual treatment pages or contact My Klinik for a consultation.
Breast augmentation can give long-lasting and natural-looking breasts that may leave you with improved self-confidence. The surgical procedure is used primarily to improve the size and also the shape of a woman’s breasts with the use of breast implants. Placement of the implant behind each breast increases its volume and enhances the overall shape of the breast.
In some cases, fat transfer/injection can be used in addition to implants to enhance volume in certain areas of the breast, to achieve better symmetry, for more upper pole fullness and/or for a better cleavage line.
Combining a mastopexy (breast lift) with breast augmentation (breast implants) can give long-lasting and natural-looking breasts that may leave you with improved self-confidence. Dr Lim is experienced at raising and firming the breasts by removing excess skin to tighten the surrounding tissue.
Breast lifts can help balance uneven breasts, reshape sagging breasts following pregnancy and breastfeeding, raise the position of downward pointing nipples and areolas, reduce the size of the areolas and increase the firmness of soft breasts. Those looking to also enhance the volume of their breasts can achieve this with breast implants at the same time. In some cases, fat injection can also enhance fullness in the upper pole of the breast and help improve cleavage lines.
Many women, while satisfied with their breast size, still feel self-conscious about their breasts for a variety of reasons. Breast lifts (also known as mastopexy) can help balance uneven breasts, reshape sagging breasts following pregnancy and breastfeeding, raise the position of downward pointing nipples and areolas, reduce the size of the areolas and increase the firmness of soft breasts.
Dr Lim is experienced at raising and firming the breasts by removing excess skin to tighten the surrounding tissue. In some cases, fat injections can also be performed to increase upper pole fullness or improve cleavage lines.
A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is designed for those that feel that no matter how many sit ups they do, they still can’t get rid of excess skin and fat on their stomach. This procedure is popular with women who have had children and are looking to tighten the abdominal wall and want a flatter, toned stomach. During a tummy tuck, excess fat and loose skin are removed and underlying muscles are tightened and repositioned.
The best candidates for a tummy tuck are patients who are in good shape, are not overweight, but have loose abdominal skin. This is commonly seen in women whose abdominal muscles and skin have been stretched out from multiple pregnancies, as well as people who have a loss of skin elasticity due to age or weight fluctuations.
Liposuction, commonly known as fat removal surgery, can help you to achieve your dream trim figure after pregnancy, by getting rid of fat in those problem areas that won’t seem to budge, no matter how healthy you eat or how vigorously you exercise. Our mummy makeover patients turn to liposuction for help with stubborn fat on their hips, thighs, buttocks, ankles, back, arms, stomach or chin.
Advances in liposuction techniques have greatly improved the potential results in recent years — specialist surgeons like Dr Lim can now remove up to five litres of fat relatively safely in a single procedure. During this procedure, Dr. Lim reshapes your body by removing stubborn fat deposits. He takes his time sculpting your new body, leaving you with a trimmer, defined physique.

Mummy Makeover FAQs
A mummy makeover is a series of procedures — such as breast surgery and a tummy tuck — performed at the same time, designed for busy mums looking to minimise their surgery recovery time. It can also be a cost-effective option when compared to undergoing multiple surgeries at different times. When it comes to reversing the physical toll of pregnancy and breastfeeding, a mummy makeover can achieve results that are simply not possible through exercise and diet alone.
As each woman’s body and pregnancy are unique, so too is each patient’s mummy makeover. Through consultation based on your own preferences, Dr Lim will determine which procedures are best for your personal mummy makeover. This may include a tummy tuck with or without liposuction, and mastopexy (breast lift), augmentation or reduction.
As with all plastic surgery, mummy makeovers are best suited for patients in good physical health, who don’t smoke and who have realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. If you have finished having children and are eager to improve the tone and shape of your breasts and abdominal area, a mummy makeover might be right for you. Dr Lim will be able to discuss your personal circumstances with you.
You will still be able to give birth after the surgery, however, pregnancy will affect your long-term results and secondary procedures may be required. Certain surgeries may also impact your ability to breastfeed. It is recommended that you wait until you no longer intend to have more children to undergo a mummy makeover.
A mummy makeover is best performed when a woman has finished having children, her children are old enough to not need constant care, and the family has sufficient support that the patient can have time to recover after surgical procedures.
We recommend waiting until you have ceased breastfeeding and your breasts have stopped producing milk. In most cases, six months to one year after giving birth will be enough time for your hormones to return to normal and to ensure your body is strong enough for the recovery process.
Your first consultation with Dr Lim will take around 45 minutes and you are most welcome to bring a support person with you. Due to social distancing measures as a result of COVID-19, the support person may not be able to enter the rooms (depending on the number of persons in the rooms at that particular time).
Dr Lim will take the time to discuss the potential procedures with you, the changes you desire, and any other issues related to the appearance of your body that you feel are important to you. This will help Dr Lim understand your expectations and determine if they are achievable.
Dr Lim will explain the risks of surgery and discuss the methods of surgery with you. Your body will be assessed, and a few measurements and photographs will be taken to plan the procedure.
You do not have to make the decision to proceed with the surgery at this initial consultation. You will be given a written quotation and information to take home to read.
Dr Lim will examine your body and consider factors such as the size and shape of your breasts and abdomen, and the quality of your skin.
Please come to the consultation prepared to discuss your medical history. This will include information about any medical conditions you have, medications you are currently taking, allergies you have, other medical treatments you have received and any previous surgery or mammograms you have had.
Please discuss with Dr Lim any plans for significant weight loss or future pregnancies, as this may affect your suitability for a mummy makeover. A second consultation (at no extra cost) is usually required if you wish to proceed with surgery.
Everyone is different, so the recovery period following a mummy makeover varies from person to person — most patients are back to their normal routine in approximately three weeks, but this will depend on the particulars of your procedures.
While you recover, you will need support to look after small children. Avoid driving, strenuous activity or lifting anything heavier than a kilogram for three to four weeks.
Returning to work depends on the demands of your job — you may be able to return to light work within one to two weeks. Dr Lim will discuss your individual situation with you before and after your surgery.
As with all surgical procedures, there are risks. However, combining breast and abdominal surgeries in a mummy makeover doesn’t increase your overall chances of complications.
We endeavour to make sure our patients are as informed as possible. During consultation, Dr Lim will take you through the risks involved.
Some aspects of a mummy makeover may have a Medicare item number. Dr Lim will advise you at your consultation.
